Acute issues handled at home or by your Homeopath
Acute issues tend to resolve much faster because they are short term issues! If you have the proper remedy for your condition, you should be much better within a few hours' time. Depending on the severity of the issues at hand, you could be better almost immediately, or it may take days for more severe issues. We recommend that anything with a fever be seen by a health professional, unless of course you try a remedy within a short time and it dramatically helps. Use common sense when treating your family.
Chronic issues seen by a Homeopath
The homeopathic process is usually different than people expect. Different Homeopaths also practice differently. Classical Homeopaths use one remedy at a time, the same way it has been done for over 200 years. Depending on what potency is selected, you may have to take a remedy once, or multiple times. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is take one dose of a remedy and wait. The first remedy that is given may not work, or you may not think that it worked, and it has! Sometimes remedies act slowly, and subtly. It is the purpose of the follow up visit to determine whether or not the remedy that was chosen is the correct one.
Homeopaths take very detailed information to determine how much better you are at your follow up. This information is carried over from visit to visit to determine how much better you are at each visit. Once a nagging complaint resolves, it is human nature not to think about it again! The careful way your Homeopath keeps track of things allows progress to be seen.
Healing doesn't always take place how we want it to. We may be focused on our skin symptoms, or our digestive complaint and other things may improve first.

Homeopaths don't always get it right on the first try. Sometimes it takes time to really get to know a person or see them in a crisis or acute phase of their illness to realize what remedy is needed.
After you take your constitutional remedy, what will happen?
Here are some possible scenarios to give you an idea of what you can expect with constitutional care.
1. You take the remedy and feel great. Usually this is a gradual change over the month, but sometimes it can be dramatic. The remedy will wear off eventually, and you will need to repeat it. Your homeopath will teach you the appropriate way to take the remedies - usually at the follow up visit. In time, when higher potencies are given, the remedy will last longer, and you will get more of a response. The remedies act deeper the higher the potency. Many clients think that they will take one dose and be cured. The process requires patience, but is well worth it.
The potencies are selected for each individual to produce the best possible response and rapid healing with the mildest aggravation.
-Going up through the potencies allows your body to adjust, and assures the changes will be permanent. It is very important to continue with homeopathy until you are taken up through the potencies, and all of your complaints resolve. Many people stop when they are functional. Follow up is very important.
2. You take a dose, and some complaint you have gets worse. This is an "aggravation" and is almost always a good sign. It is usually mild and brief. If it is a problem, contact your practitioner to determine what action to take next.
3. You take a dose of the remedy and nothing happens. Sometimes it is a matter of time, as some remedies act slowly. Follow-ups are generally set up for around 4 weeks for that reason. If you come in to the follow up and no change has occurred, then it was most probably the wrong remedy, and another remedy needs to be tried. Perhaps there was some information that was missed, or there was something "odd" that you forgot to mention. Pay special attention if any "new" symptoms occur, it will usually lead to the right remedy. Sometimes the best information comes from "I don't know if you need to know this, but....." Or "this is going to sound weird, but..." Sometimes the most trivial or unusual information is what leads to the correct remedy.
4. You take a remedy and the physical symptoms get better but your mood is worse. (This is extremely rare!) Call your homeopath right away as your remedy will probably need to be antidoted.
5. You take a remedy and get a skin eruption like you had long ago. (Any old symptoms can come back within the course of taking the remedy). They are usually mild and go away in time. Please do not suppress anything on the skin if at all possible!!! Suppression of your symptoms can mean that you will get worse in another area.
