Book List

Recommended Book List:

Here is a list of books for the beginner to the advanced student. Many thanks to the Friends of the Ohio State Homeopathic Medical Society for this information (with a few additions from me!)

Introductory books:

Dooley, Timothy, MD, ND Homeopathy: Beyond Flat Earth Medicine, Timing Publications, 1995
An excellent, very readable introduction to the basic principles of homeopathy, written for the laymen. Dr. Dooley has studied both naturopathic and conventional medicine.

Ullman, Robert and Reichenberg, Judyth, The Patient's Guide to Homeopathic Medicine, Picnic Point Press, 1995
A very fine description of what to expect from homeopathy, describing in detail the homeopathic interview and process.

Amy L. Lansky, Impossible Cure: the Promise of Homeopathy, RL Ranch Press, 2003
An excellent book, very thoroughly describes the homeopathic philosophy and homeopathic process.

Self Help Books:

Ullman R, and Reichenberg, J. Homeopathic Self Care - the Quick and Easy Guide for the Whole Family, Delhi: Punthi-Pustak 2000.
Certainly one of the best self-help books, the Ullmans have clear, logical explanantions and charts for a wide variety of clinical conditions.

Lockie, Andrew, Family Guide to Homeopathy, Silon & Schuster, 1989
An excellent value: A fine introduction as well as a great deal of information on specific illnesses and remedies, easy to access.

Panos, Maesimund and Heimlich, Jane, Homeopathic Medicine at Home, Tarcher Books, 1980
A popular guidebook written by the Grand Dame of Ohio Homeopathy, Dr. Panos. Good for folks that like charts.

Homeopathy for Children:

Ullman, Robert and Reichenberg, Judyth, Ritalin Free Kids.
An excellent description for beginners and advanced students of what homeopathy can do for children with Attention Deficit, Hyperactivity, Behavioral and Learning Disorders.

Ullman, Robert and Reichenberg, Judyth, and Luepker, Ian A Drug-Free Approach to Asperger Syndrome and Autism: Homeopathic Care for Exceptional Kids.
An excellent description for beginners and advanced students of what homeopathy can do for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and Asperger's Syndrome.

Amy L. Lansky, Impossible Cure: the Promise of Homeopathy, RL Ranch Press, 2003
An excellent book, very thoroughly describes the homeopathic philosophy and homeopathic process.

History and Relevant Topics:

Perko, Sandra - The Homeopathic Treatment of Influenza (New 2005 Bird Flu Edition!) A fascinating retelling of the horrors of the 1918 Influenza pandemic, the homeopathic successes of the time, and what we can do today to help treat another pandemic.

For the Advanced Student:

Hahnemann, Samuel, MD, Organon of the Medical Art, translated by S. Decker, edited by W.B. O'Reilly, Birdcage Books, 1996.
The seminal work on Homeopathy, describing the method and philosophy, translated from the 19th century German. Very insightful, but tedious, difficult reading, for advanced students only.

Vitoulkas, George, The Science of Homeopathy, Grove Press 1980.
One of the few modern textboks on the methodology. Vithoulkas is one of the leading teachers of homeopathy today. Recommended for advanced students only.

Coulter, Catherine, Portraits of Homeopathic Medicines: Psychophysical Analyses of Selected Constitutions Types, North Atlantic Books, 1986
A delightfully well-written rendering of the personality types of various well-known homeopathic remedies, drawing extensively from literature and popular culture. Ms. Coulter won the London Times Non-Fiction Book Award to 1987 with this book. Volumes 2 and 3 also available.

Whitmont, Edward MD, Psyche and Substance: Essays on Homeopathy in the light of Jungian Psychology, North Atlantic Books, 1991
For anyone intrigued by Jungian archetypes, this book is fascinating. Dr. Whitmont is a well known homeopath who founded and chaired the C.G. Jung Training Institute in New York.

Vermeulen, Franz, Concordant Materia Medica, Emryss BV, 1997
Probably considered the best single volume Materia Medica by most practitioners, it combines the drug pictures from most of the greats: Allen, Boericke, Boger, Copperthwaite, Clarke, Hering, Kent, Lippe, Phatak, Pulford and Vermeulen.

Bailey, Phillip MD, Homeopathic Psychology: Personality Profiles of the Major Constitutional Remedies.
An in-depth description of 34 major chronic remedy "essences."

Hershoff, Asa ND, Homeopathy for Musculoskeletal Healing.
A well-researched and logically presented resource by an author who is very skilled at constructing charts, graphs and tables to lead you to a helpful remedy.

Koehler, Gerhard, MD, The Handbook of Homeopathy.
A very fine "how-to" book for the professional practitioner, covering case-taking, case analysis, and remedy selection.

Chappell, Peter, Emotional Healing with Homeopathy.
A very fine explanation of emotional trauma, how we get stuck there, and how homeopathy can be very useful in the process of emotional healing. This book should be used in conjunction with a homeopathic professional.
