This area of the website highlights aspects of an individual remedy. This is for informational and teaching purposes, therefore, there is much about the remedies that is not included. For full length versions of any of these remedies, you may look in any of the large Materia Medica's that are available. Every remedy has a large number of symptoms or body systems it can effect. It is beyond the scope of this website to list everything a remedy can do. If a complaint recurs, it is a chronic issue, and needs to be addressed by a professional homeopath.
Please note that in some cases there are indications for a remedy that is also an emergency situation, wherever possible, this is noted. In these cases, it is advisable to seek medical help. Do not attempt to use these remedies to avoid conventional treatment where necessary. In some cases, you may wish to give a remedy on route to the hospital, or doctor's office.
There is a "picture" of conditions where the remedy is indicated. For those new to homeopathy, this may be difficult to understand. For example, if a person has certain characteristics, then that particular remedy will do the trick no matter what the complaint. If I have a cold that has thick stringy discharge, and you get the cold and have watery drainage, we will both need different remedies!
For another example, let's look at the following set of complaints:
My young son has an earache. He is not drinking anything, and will not let me out of his sight - he is so clingy! I think it is on the left side, because he tugs at that ear. He insists on having the window open.
His remedy would probably be pulsatilla, a common remedy for children. This illustrates the example that homeopaths look at all the information available to come to the right remedy - the mood of the person in their illness, helps to determine the remedy given. If my son had a cold that was left sided, his behavior is clingy, low thirst, and wanting the window open - it would be the same remedy. If he had a bronchitis, strep, urinary tract infection, or whatever, and he displayed this particular "picture" it would still be the same remedy!
This list of remedies will grow as time goes on, so feel free to check back and learn about more remedies! There are remedy kits readily available to the consumer wishing to learn basic acute care. There are also many books available for "home prescribing" - check out the book list for beginner to advanced suggestions. There are also homeopathic study groups that you may join to teach you how to treat your family at home. (See national center for homeopathy link.) There are many minor complaints treatable at home.
